Introduction & Basics of RFID

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Label’s two most recognizable benefits are (1) the capacity to supplement product identification (such as a barcode) with unique information (e.g. a serial number), and the capability to be able to capture product information without the limitation of being physically visible (it can be in the box).

RFID Labeled Products
To capture RFID embedded data from these products, you have to read the passive labels/tags via RFID readers.  A visible RFID label also may supplement RFID data with the same abilities of a traditional barcode label.

Pros: Identify Product Information (without seeing the label), Extensive Amounts of Product Data, Identify (Labeled) Contents, Prevent Counterfeiting.
Cons: Increased Cost, Requires Infrastructure to Capture & Process Data
